Association of American Universities
Founded in 1900, the Association of American Universities is composed of America’s leading research universities. AAU’s 71 research universities transform lives through education, research, and innovation. AAU's member universities earn the majority of competitively awarded federal funding for research that improves public health, seeks to address national challenges, and contributes significantly to our economic strength, while educating and training tomorrow’s visionary leaders and innovators. AAU member universities collectively help shape policy for higher education, science, and innovation; promote best practices in undergraduate and graduate education, and strengthen the contributions of leading research universities to American society.

ation of Public & Land-Grant Universities
The Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities (APLU) is a membership organization that fosters a community of university leaders collectively working to advance the mission of public research universities. The association’s U.S membership consists of more than 230 public research universities, land-grant institutions, state university systems, and affiliated organizations spanning across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and six U.S. territories. The association and its members collectively focus on increasing access, equity, completion, and workforce readiness; promoting pathbreaking scientific research; and bolstering economic and community engagement.
Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium
The Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC) is a public-private biomedical technology consortium that is internationally-dispersed and authorized to serve by the Department of Defense to promote the development and delivery of innovative medical solutions that protect, treat, and optimize the health and performance of U.S. military personnel, veterans, and civilians. UVA is a member of the consortium, which allows our researchers to apply for MTEC supported funding opportunities.
Network for Change and Continuous Innovation
NCCI positions higher education institutions to be agile, lifelong learning models to transform lives and communities around the world. All efforts of NCCI trace back to the goal of advancing sustainable excellence in higher education by promoting successful practices and approaches used to drive change, innovation, and continuous improvement across academic and administrative functions. All UVA faculty and staff can access NCCI resources, including online workshops, by registering for an account. Organizational Excellence is the contact for this membership.
Oak Ridge Affiliated Universities
Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) provides innovative scientific and technical solutions for the U.S. Department of Energy and other federal agencies to advance national priorities in science, health, and education. Through specialized teams of experts and access to a consortium of more than 150 major colleges and universities, ORAU works with federal, state, local, and commercial customers to advance national priorities and serve the public interest. The Research and University Partnerships Office brings together university faculty and students to collaborate with ORAU experts on major scientific initiatives that strengthen America’s leading edge in science and technology. ORAU offers several grant programs to its university consortium members to facilitate these connections and thereby create opportunities for cutting edge and innovative research. ORAU hosts an Annual Meeting of the Council of Sponsoring Institutions each Spring.
Southeastern Universities Research Association
SURA consists of 57 member universities. It operates the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) for the Department of Energy. SURA’s main purpose is to foster collaboration among member universities to enhance their capabilities of undertaking significant, transformative scientific research projects that no single institution or small consortium can handle independently.
University-Industry Demonstration Partnership
The UIDP is a non-profit association comprised of leading innovation companies and highly regarded research universities from all over the world who work to find better ways to partner and increase the benefits from collaborations between the sectors. Their project oriented work generally falls into these broad categories: contracting, economic development, strategic engagement, Triple Helix, and workforce development.
